Superintendent Welcome

Dr. Sargent Welcome

Greetings from Kokomo Schools! I enthusiastically extend a Wildkat welcome to each one of you this 2023-2024 school year.

I am honored to serve as your superintendent. As a graduate of Kokomo High School, former KHS athlete and coach, and now as a proud parent of Kokomo students, I have experienced firsthand the profound impact of education on the lives of students and families in our community.

The landscape of Kokomo Schools is evolving by providing students with more exciting opportunities than ever before.  As we strive to continue offering enriched educational experiences for generations of Wildkats, I am thrilled to see the growth and innovation of Kokomo Schools.

To continue meeting the diverse learning needs of students, Kokomo Schools offers a range of programs from preschool through 12th-grade. Our goal is to involve families in the decision-making process, empowering them to make informed choices that optimize each child’s educational journey.

Preschool classes are available at six of our eight elementary schools, and we also offer a variety of choice programs, such as Outdoor Learning, Integrated Arts, International Baccalaureate (IB), State-Certified STEM, and Transformation Zones. Kokomo students have the advantage of three middle schools, which offer early opportunities to earn high school credits, travel internationally, and register in courses at the Kokomo Area Career Center.

Kokomo High School provides a multitude of dynamic learning options, including Advanced Placement (AP), IB Diploma Programme (DP), and Dual Credit courses as an Indiana College Core provider. The Kokomo Area Career Center, located conveniently within the KHS campus, offers exceptional Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities, where students engage in hands-on, project-based learning using innovative methods and state-of-the-art equipment.

I am excited to announce two new programs starting this school year. Maple Crest Elementary reopened as a STEM magnet school for grades K-4 and will expand to 5th-grade in the 2024-2025 school year. Maple Crest Elementary provides an immersive learning experience in Science-Technology-Engineering-Math and also offers the Kokomo Enrichment of Youth (KEY) program for gifted learners. Additionally, Kokomo School Corporation officials opened the Kokomo Virtual Academy, which is a new high school providing virtual learning programs for students in grades 9-12. The Kokomo Virtual Academy offers a full curriculum with synchronous (real-time interactions) and asynchronous (learning to fit your schedule) high school courses based on Indiana Academic Standards, while providing scheduling flexibility through an online platform.

Your dedicated school leaders - including Board members, administrators, teachers, and support staff – are focused on the academic growth of each student. Prioritizing support services to meet our students' social-emotional needs and embracing diversity through inclusionary practices, Kokomo Schools staff uphold our mission of Creating a Better World by developing global-minded and compassionate lifelong learners.

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as Superintendent of the Kokomo School Corporation, and I consider myself blessed to contribute to my hometown community. Thank you for your continued support of Kokomo Schools. Together, we can create a better world through education. Go Wildkats!
